Max Brose // Background
The business that Max Brose started in 1908 has become a globally successful company with more than 25,000 employees. Its history is characterized by a strong vision, entrepreneurial courage and a determination to succeed.
In 2016, the Brose Group developed and produced mechatronic components and systems for vehicle doors, seats and body at 60 locations in 23 countries worldwide. Brose’s customers include more than 80 car manufacturers and other automotive suppliers. More than 25,000 employees worldwide working for the family-owned company. The Brose Group generated sales of €6.1 billion in fiscal 2016.
Although a successful company, Brose Coventry recognised that they had some challenges with personal development, onboarding and retention.
An introduction was made for Siamo Training in December 2016. The post presentation feedback was positive but tentative as they had a poor experience of other training providers. It was agreed that Siamo Training would trial the proposed concept with 40 Siamo Recruitment, temporary staff.
Within 3 months of delivery we were asked by Brose senior management to deliver training to all temporary staff. Within 6 months we were asked to train all staff across the factory…
Siamo Training employed Adrian Bland, an expert trainer with 20+ years experience in engineering and production. After a detailed analysis we were able to point out skills gaps and areas for improvement.
Within 3 months of delivery we were asked by Brose senior management to deliver training to all temporary staff. Within 6 months we were asked to train all staff across the factory.
Now we are sole supplier for Brose, our team of 5 onsite trainers delivering all training including inductions, PMO, BIT, Team Leading, Management, English and Engineering… to date they have never been charged a penny.
Proving the Concept
Senior management was onboard with the project from early on, however there was initially a challenge to win the hearts and minds of the team leaders and some process experts. We can honestly say that we have changed any negative attitudes to training through showing our knowledge, experience and innovative approach.
There was a very quick change in culture once we proved that training made an impact on communication, job knowledge, reduction of waste and moral. Having a team of experts on site 5 days a week we have been able to offer “off the cuff” advice and guidance for real life situations rather than theoretical practices.
Imbedding the values of the business into the training we have become a very important part of the Brose structure. Senior management have trust in us that we will put the development of their staff above the criteria of the qualification proving that our concept works. We now have our own onsite portacabin purely for Siamo Training to deliver training workshops.
Siamo Training deliver 100% of Brose inductions including all temp inductions. Applicants receive a robust introduction to the business and culture, followed up by an extended induction in their workspace offering more support than a standard onboarding process.
Each new starter is assessed and advised on a route for training which includes 1 or all of the following: personal development, English, Math, ICT, Communication and team work.
Following this foundation of learning staff then progress onto PMO, Warehousing, Team Leader, Management, or BIT. All courses are bespoke to Brose and take into account company values and Brose SOP’s.
After 6-12 months training is complete and the staff are given the option to progress onto higher learning up to a level 5. We have now been given full access to their levy and in February 2018 Siamo Training will supply 20 Apprentice Engineers to bring fresh talent into the business.
