Assistant Registered Manager – Children’s Residential Home Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: £54,000 per annum
  • Bonus: Up to £6,000 per annum (performance-related)
  • Working Hours: 40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
  • Holiday Entitlement: 28 days per year, inclusive of public and bank holidays

About the Role We are looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Registered Manager to support the leadership of a children’s residential home. You will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the home, ensuring high-quality care, safeguarding, and full compliance with Ofsted and Children’s Home Regulations.
Your focus will be on providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where children and young people can thrive, while supporting the Registered Manager in leading and developing a skilled staff team.
Key Responsibilities Children & Young People

  • Ensure the home meets all Ofsted and regulatory requirements
  • Safeguard all children and young people and promote their welfare at all times
  • Deliver care in line with the Children’s Homes Regulations, quality standards, and company policies
  • Oversee admissions, care plans, risk assessments, and reviews
  • Work closely with families, social workers, advocates, and other professionals
  • Monitor children’s progress and ensure their needs, goals, and outcomes are met
  • Support staff in managing challenging behaviour positively
  • Provide direct care when required, including occasional shift cover

Staff Management

  • Recruit, induct, supervise, and develop staff in line with regulatory standards
  • Ensure safer recruitment checks (DBS, references, etc.) are completed
  • Provide regular supervision, appraisals, and team meetings
  • Manage performance, sickness, absence, and disciplinary matters
  • Identify training needs and promote continuous professional development
  • Promote company values and positive staff culture

Quality & Compliance

  • Maintain high standards across care, safeguarding, health & safety, and equality
  • Ensure the Statement of Purpose is followed and regularly reviewed
  • Manage inspections, audits, and actions from reviews
  • Ensure compliance with the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty requirements

General Duties

  • Work within agreed budgets
  • Take part in on-call duties as required
  • Promote the home positively within the local community
  • Follow all company policies, especially safeguarding and child protection
  • Undertake training and ongoing professional development

Person Specification Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • At least 2 years’ experience in children’s residential care within the last 5 years
  • At least 1 year in a management or supervisory role
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a staff team effectively
  • Good communication, organisational, and IT skills
  • Physically and mentally fit to manage a residential home
  • Full driving licence
