Siamo colleagues located in Greenford – Sainsburys, have been participating in the Mencap Programme, a charity that supports people with learning disabilities, creating a more inclusive, accessible workplace.
As part of the programme, the team have been providing one-to-one training to Mencap participants with learning disabilities, by answering questions and listening to responses from those taking part, our team were able to understand the individual needs required from those with learning disabilities when working in a warehouse environment.
Our Site Manager Marlena said: ‘colleagues showed integrity, patience and friendship’ towards those taking part in the programme.
Mencap trainers were also involved in the programme, explaining and demonstrating tasks and responsibilities involved in becoming a picker in the Chill Warehouse. This section of the training allowed participants to have the correct knowledge of skills needed to succeed in this job role.
Mencap’s vision is to create a world where people with learning disabilities are valued equally, listened to and included. Siamo Greenford – Sainsbury’s collaboration within this programme is a significant step towards creating a more inclusive working environment for those with learning disabilities, welcoming and supporting all members of the community.
This programme has allowed Siamo to build a meaningful partnership with Mencap and drives us towards increasing our involvement in supporting those with disabilities in the workplace.
We would like to thank Wincanton Sainsbury’s Team at Greenford for being part of this valuable experience.
