Siamo Group has been working together with our client, Neovia Logistics and the Prince’s Trust Talent Match Programme to increase employment opportunities for candidates with specific learning disabilities, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Traditional recruitment processes can be difficult for those with ASD and similar learning disabilities and are often a barrier to them gaining employment. This is often in complete contrast to their abilities to be able to carry out a job effectively and maintain rewarding employment.
Since being here I feel my social skills have been developed to the point I can talk to any colleague, manager or coach with confidence.
To break down this barrier, we have been working with staff from Neovia, the Prince’s Trust and B-Inspired, to create a supported learning environment where these candidates can come into the workplace and work towards getting employment through a mentoring process.
We have allowed and encouraged the group to work together to foster a welcoming and comfortable environment where they can flourish. However, each team member has their own responsibilities, as per any other employee.
Several members of the first group have now successfully gained employment at this site and the remaining members are now mentors to the next group. They are all flourishing and succeeding.
This is the first project of its kind at a site we have worked at, and the results have been incredibly rewarding. We hope this is the first of many.
